Objectives of this HAZMAT Awareness and response training
The goal of this Hazmat awareness and response training is to provide delegates with the knowledge, skills, and strategies they need to safely and effectively work at the proximity of hazardous materials, respond to hazardous materials incidents that occur at fixed sites and during transport and rectify hazardous situations. Upon completion, participants should have the ability to:
- Describe and practice basic strategies to safeguard their health and safety when exposed to hazardous materials.
- Detect the presence of hazardous substances
- Implement defensive control measures that minimize risks to health and safety
- Use emergency response plan and/or standard operating procedures
- Perform defensive control techniques (e.g., damming and diking; flowing foam)
- Use the personal protective equipment of the authority having jurisdiction
- Identify decontamination procedures
- Communicate the status of the planned response
- Initiate the Incident Management System, recognizing
Training Duration:
The Hazmat awareness and response training has a duration of two days. This includes classroom presentations, discussion, exercises and site Inspection. We can organise the training onsite in Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Central African Republic, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea
Training Prerequisite:
There is no special prerequisite for this Hazmat awareness and response training but it is recommended that participants of the Hazmat awareness and response course participant should have some knowledge on firefighting. Ability to write and understand basic English or French.

The Hazmat awareness and response training is highly recommended for members of the fire response team, persons working at the proximity of hazardous material, first response personnel, Emergency Medical Service personnel, and other persons who may respond to incidents involving hazardous materials or weapons of mass destruction (WMD)

HAZMAT IDENTIFICATION
- Six clues that indicate the presence of a hazardous material(s).
- The nine DOT Hazmat classes.
- A hazardous material by class, name and/or UN/NA ID number.
HAZMAT RESPONSE STRATEGIES
- The role of the first responder at the awareness level.
- Hazardous materials emergency response planning.
TAKING CONTROL
- Actions needed to properly isolate the incident.
- Procedures necessary to activate an Emergency Response Plan.
- Handling hazardous material
- Proper protective actions to take in accordance with the NAERG
Termination
- After completing this section, you should be able to identify:
- Three actions to take when terminating an incident.
- Information to gather during an incident debriefing
