inspections of the fire extinguisher and set them in the appropriate position. Thanks to firefighting training delivered by Hy-Classe Training
Crew members onboard a Noble Drilling vessel drilling for SOCO International Pointe Noire Congo have been train on firefighting at the basic level. They are ready to apply fire prevention, fire attack and fire suppression techniques onboard the rig
The crew members comprising of roustabout, roughnecks, painters, cooks, electricians, mechanics, translators and radio operators onboard the Jack up affirmed they are ready to attack and extinguish fires before the situation goes out of control on the rig.
“From the smallest fire in the first minute to flashovers in the third or more minutes, I affirmed that we have received the best training on the causes of fire, the propagation of fire, and how to attack and control fires before it grows wild. The training has given us a better understanding on the tactics and techniques of fighting fires”. Said Mr. Norbert, a participant of the training on basic fire fighting.
“I have gotten a better understanding of the chemistry of fire thanks to this training offered by Hy-Classe Training, I can now identify fire hazards on the rig, carry out a basic fire risks assessment and I know the control measures to put in place”. “I can now successfully operate a fire extinguisher, make visual inspections of the fire extinguisher and set them in the appropriate position. Thanks to firefighting training delivered by Hy-Classe Training I am now skillful on how to identify and calculate fire behavior.
“There are many things that caught my attention and admiration during the Training. To begin with, the trainer is well experience in the subject matter, the training methodology developed is excellent and the delivery method makes information delivered stick in you. He has made firefighting simpler. The different classes of fire are on my fingertips”. These are the opinions of crew members after they attended a firefighting training organized by Hy-Classe Training.
During the two day training session, the team of trainers from Hy-Classe Training highlighted the importance of fire prevention to fire attack and suppression. “We have no idea when a fire can occur and we cannot tell how fast the fire will propagate. To extinguish the fire and prevent it from causing devastating consequences, we have to attack it within the first two minutes.” the Trainer said while encouraging the crew members to prioritise fire prevention to fire suppression. “If you allow the fire to grow wild, then you will be unable to suppress it with a fire extinguisher, you will need to call the fire brigade and employ the use of fire hoses.
